Who are the “Nagoya Ten Samurai”?

Brought to life in Nagoya after more than 400 years!

The Nagoya Ten Samurai group was formed in 2009 for the benefit of Nagoya visitors, and is comprised of six renowned Nagoya samurai; Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Maeda Toshiie, Kato Kiyomasa and Maeda Keiji, as well as four foot soldiers; Touma,

Natsu, Shoeomn, Kazunosuke.The average age of the group members is 464 years. Freshly arrived from over four hundred years in the past, these samurai and their soldiers retain the apparel, customs, speech and knowledge of feudal Japan.

The six pledges of the Ten Samurai

The members of the Ten Samurai Group have pledged themselves to a strict code of ethics, comprised of the following promises:

to strive for the highest level of hospitality;
to be the bards of historical romance;
to recreate the art and spirit of the samurai for the pleasure of all;
to convey the attractions of their homeland to the world;
to preserve and communicate traditional culture;
and to be sincere and fully committed at all times.

Activities of the Ten Samurai

The Ten Samurai are usually to be found at Nagoya Castle, where they greet and entertain visitors. On weekends and holidays they give demonstrations of battle arts, and perform samurai dance routines. They also visit cities around the Japan, travel abroad for publicity, and appear regularly on TV and radio, as well as in various events, where they enjoy immense popularity.
