The Mikawa region of Aichi prefecture, which was a crossroad of different cultures, people, and goods between east and west. Nishio city is also known as “Little Kyoto of Mikawa,” Nishio Castle, which was the castle of the Nishio Domain’s , which yields 60,000 koku of rice during the Edo period. It is said to have started from Saijo Castle, which was built by Ashikaga Yoshiuji in the early Kamakura period. The historical park, which conveys the majesty of the castle town, has rebuilt and restored a part of Nishio Castle, where you can enjoy the nature of the four seasons and think about history while looking at historical buildings. It is still a place of relaxation for its citizens.
“Iwase Bunko”, Japan’s first old book museum, preserves and publishes about 80,000 books in a wide range of fields and eras, from classical books including important cultural properties to modern practical books. We have a unique exhibition where you can learn while experiencing the long history and rich culture of Japanese books.
Nishio City Historical Park with the restoring “Nishio Castle,” is a new historical and cultural center that conveys the life of the past. It was the center of the Nishio clan’s castle town until the Edo period. In this tour, you can learn about the history of Nishio by visiting the castle, the park and the temple (Seiganji) related to the Matsudaira family who served the Tokugawa family. A local guide explains about Nishio City with passion. You also enjoy high quality matcha at a former residence of a court noble, which was built in the Edo period. It was relocated from Kyoto. Magnificent views of the Japanese garden will allow you to relax in harmony and enjoy the calming effects of the Matcha tea.
Iwase Bunko is Japan’s first old classic library that preserves more than 80,000 books in a wide range of fields and eras. They have various books from classical ones including important cultural properties to modern practical books. In this tour, you can browse and touch the printed scroll, which is considered to be the oldest in the world, and gorgeous picture scrolls from the Edo period. You also experience making your own Japanese style bound book. For your lunch, you will have a Japanese authentic kaiseki style meal.
