Experience plan details

  1. With a long history of over 1,500 years, sumo is considered as Japan’s national sport, and is an inherent part of the country’s tradition. This tour includes a ticket to the Grand Sumo Tournament, allowing customers to experience the thrill of watching powerful sumo wrestlers compete against each other. Freely enjoy the spacious IG Arena which opened in the summer of 2025.
  2. A National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter knowledgeable about professional sumo wrestling will accompany customers to the venue. Beginners and sumo fans alike will surely gain a deeper insight into professional sumo wrestling as customers will be watching the sumo bouts while listening to explanations from the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter through an audio earphone guide.
  3. There will only be booking reception for the 2026 July tournaments, and official booking confirmations will be from March 2026.
  4. Your selected class of chair seating (S, A, or B) will be provided.
  5. All tour participants will receive “The Sumo,” a booklet about sumo (in English); and Banzuke-hyo, a table of rankings, as a gift! Feel free to use it while watching.
  6. This Nagoya round-trip tour departing in the afternoon can be a day trip for those coming from Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka. Individual customers are welcome to participate.

12:50 – Meet at Nagoya Zokei University right across from IG Arena

13:10 – Lecture About Sumo

The National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter will conduct a lecture about sumo.

Enjoy watching the thrilling bouts of sumo wrestling until the tour ends at IG Arena, which opened in the summer of 2025.

15:40 – Makuuchi Wrestler Ceremonial Entrance, Yokozuna Grand Champion Ring Entrance (will not take place if there are no Yokozuna present)
The crowd comes alive at the sight of their favorite wrestlers and cheers them on. The atmosphere in the arena brightens instantly.
16:00 – Makuuchi Division Wrestlers’ Sumo Matches
18:00 – Bow-twirling Ceremony
*Shops in the facility accept only cashless payments. As cash is not accepted, bringing a credit card or similar payment method is recommended.

18:15 – Tour Ends

Please head to your next destination on your own after the tour.
Those who prefer may ask the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter for explanations such as how to get to the nearest station.

– Bookings may be made until 05:00 on the day of the tour. Please make a reservation on the system until the reservation deadline.
– If the minimum number of participants (1) is not met by 4 days before the scheduled date, or due to other operational management circumstances, the tour on that date may be canceled.
– Please note that participants may not join partway through the tour. Also, participants may join only from the meeting location specified in advance.
– For requests regarding tours where answers from the tour operator are required in advance, please input in the Remarks field and contact the tour operator.

– For the grand sumo tournament viewing, customers will be provided chair seating according to their selected class (S, A, or B). Depending on reservations, members of the same group may not be seated together. Requests for specific seats are not accepted.
– Smoking is not allowed inside the venue.
– Refunds will not be provided even if a customer does not enter a facility for their own reason, etc.
– If making plans for before or after the tour on the same day, and for those joining from Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc., please leave enough time in your schedule.

– Please note that you may have to wait to be taken to your seat or listen to explanations by the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter if one of the following events is underway at the time: a sumo match, a speech by the Sumo Association (on the first and the last tournament day), the ring entering procession of the Makuuchi division wrestlers (dohyoiri), the ring entering procession of the Yokozuna, or the ritual stomping ceremony (last tournament day only).

[Important Notes/Supplements: Regarding Children/Infants]
– Only 1 child 0-3 years old per adult may join for free. Grand Sumo Tournament viewing seats will not be provided for them. They will have to sit on the lap of their parent or guardian. Ages are determined based on how old the participant will be on the day of the tour. If the child requires a seat, please make a booking at the child rate (typically for ages 4-11), same price as the Adult rate.

[Important Notes/Supplements: Regarding Meals]
– Bringing food and drinks including alcohol into the venue is prohibited.
– Meals are not included. Customers may have a meal at a shop or cafeteria inside the tournament venue, or at Nagoya Castle Kinshachi Yokocho (http://kinshachi-y.jp/en/index.html).
– Shops in the facility accept only cashless payments. As cash is not accepted, bringing a credit card or similar payment method is recommended.

[Important Notes/Supplements: For Customers Using Wheelchairs]
– For those participating in a wheelchair, please indicate so in the remarks field when booking.
– From the venue’s wheelchair storage area, please go to the spectator seating area on your own or with the help of an accompanying group member. Please note that the National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter cannot provide assistance or help.
– Wheelchairs cannot be used in the spectator seating area arranged for this tour.

[Important Notes/Supplements: Regarding Luggage]
– Suitcases and other large pieces of luggage cannot be brought into the seating area. In addition, baggage cannot be stored at the meeting location. Please make sure to store luggage at another location on your own in advance (coin lockers, etc.) or at your accommodation.
