This tour is part of the Toyota Green Life Experience series. Feel with your five senses the beauty of Toyota City’s Inabu area and its autumn beauty during the Maple Festival. This special experience allows you to gaze upon the seasonal beauty of Inabu and its fall leaves, make your own local culinary treat known as “gohei mochi”, and whisk up some tea in a rural, rustic tea ceremony.
Explore the vibrant foliage in the Takadoya Wetlands and along the Nagura River in expansive, historic Oidaira Park, in which countless trees were planted around the early 1830s to mid-1840s. This experience lets you not only take in the works of art Mother Nature has created but also gain an appreciation of the local culture as you interact with vendors setting up shop with local foods and products. Not enough? Well, you have the chance to create and gorge on your own gohei mochi rice cake by forming a mash of locally produced Mineasahi white rice onto a stick which you place over charcoal to grill with a secret sauce. You can even take part in a more rustic version of tea ceremony as you make okecha tea in a traditional wooden bucket with a bamboo whisk as was done around the mid-1800s.
Become one with the nature of rural Japan in a quaint mountain community as you escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Start your journey with convenient transportation from your hotel. Travel comfortably toward the mountain village of Inabu, a region known for its vibrant autumn foliage and rustic charm.
Arrive at the Takadoya Wetlands and begin your exploration of Inabu’s Maple Festival atmosphere. Stroll through the marshlands surrounded by seasonal colors while hearing an introduction to the day’s experiences.
Stop by the Horaisen Ginjo Workshop to taste freshly brewed, unpasteurized sake. This rare style offers a vivid glimpse into Japan’s brewing traditions.
Head to a local workshop where you will prepare to make gohei mochi, a traditional mountain treat.
Shape sticky rice onto wooden sticks, grill it over charcoal, and glaze it with a sweet miso-based sauce. Savor your handmade gohei mochi just as locals have done for generations.
Enjoy a peaceful walk along the Nagura River and through Oidaira Park, where trees planted nearly two centuries ago create a striking seasonal backdrop. Try making okecha tea in a rustic wooden bucket, recreating a local custom from days gone by.
Spend time browsing local stalls and taking photos of the colorful scenery during the Maple Festival. Pick up regional specialties or small mementos to take home.
Conclude your excursion with a comfortable ride back to your hotel.
